Being that I have a 16 year old what in a couple of years will be heading to college, I decided to check out Kitchenability 101 – The College Student’s Guide to Easy, Healthy and Delicious Food. This book is geared toward the college student moving out for the first time to help them with what they need in their kitchen. I often wonder how the new college kids survive, my son used to be a pretty good cook, but is at a stage where I often wonder if he could make PB&J without direction. He is so scattered with homework, clubs college pre-tests, friends and girls, but at least I know he still needs me to survive! There are several areas that have QR codes included that when scanned with a smart phone go to a video for more information.
I love that the first chapter goes over the basics to have in their dorm room as far as appliances and utensils, what the best basic items are for their kitchen and how to shop on a budget. I thought the tips they were providing were great, it sure beat the cheap noodles most of us lived on when I was younger. Then it has a ton of recipes. We are not talking plain scrambled eggs or a can of soup. They have quite a few recipes that I have tried, they are easy to make, pretty healthy and taste good.
One of my favorite recipes is the Sunday Salmon Omelet, I love salmon and could eat it every day. I love that they have recipes like that as well as the Double-Decker PB and J. There are a lot of them that I will be making because they look and sound amazing. There are pictures with every recipe which I know my son looks for when he does look for something to cook, if there is not a picture, it does not matter what it is, he will not bother.
I had fully intended to save this for him for when he leaves for college, I am not so sure, I might be keeping this one for myself. You can check out Kitchenability 101 on their website, they are also on Facebook and Twitter. You can purchase this book on Amazon, the printed version is available for $13.10 and the Kindle version is $7.99.
I received a copy of Kitchenability 101 in order to do a review, however all statements made are my own and were not influenced in any way.

That sounds like a really helpful book. My daughter is going to college next year but staying at home. She’s a great cook already, but having to make due with dorm appliances would be a new experience.
I keep telling my son that he can go to any collage he wants, they all have online classes so he can choose anywhere and still stay in his room at home. He is not listening though.
That’s a great price and I would say a great book for anyone who wants to learn to cook…..ME ME – even at 52 I”m still learning!
I learned a lot from it. I used to be the Hamburger Helper pro, I am finally finding time to cook more and having a great time doing it.
My daughter has 4 more years before she goes to collage. I am not looking forward to it
Of course because I want her to experience life but that one part of me wishes she was still my baby. I am thankful that she does know how to cook.
I started preparing my son a while ago. I tell him at least once a week that all schools have online classes so he does not ever have to leave home.
My daughter is at college now – her dorm is a 2 bedroom apartment – so I may be looking into this one as an “extra” book she needs to have for the semester! Thanks for the review and info ….
I’ll have to check this out for my sister. She is getting ready to go to collage
What a neat book! My kids aren’t college age yet but I think it would be good for anyone really.
I am just recently getting into the cooking thing, a little late, but never had time to try different recipes so I do not mind learning the basics. My basics were open a box and add ground meat before, lol.
