Moving Monday – Getting Fit – Calves

I have decided to go back to my old way of working out which means getting creative and using the parks.  I started doing that when my oldest was younger, I missed working out but did not want to go to the gym and miss time with him.  Now that I have my youngest with me all the time, things are the same for him.  I want to get healthy, but on a budget and while spending time with him.  We walk to the park at least three times a week (if the weather is good).  Once there, we play and I work in working out while playing with him.  Here is a way to work our calves that is easy, basic and works.

Most playgrounds I have been to have steps, carefully stand on the edge of the step, raise one leg up and then lower and raise your self up.  I do this ten times in three different sets.  Of course there is a lot of playing in between, it does not take much time to get the quick ten in so I can be on the chase again.   My son never notices I take a moment to try to workout, he just realizes we are having a lot of fun.  Working out at the playground with my kids for me is a lot more fun than a gym (though I did enjoy those when I was younger!).

I wanted to share with you how I am trying to incorporate fitness into my schedule as a stay at home mom on a budget.  My goal this year is to get healthy and to set a better example for my kids.  Part of that is getting out and moving with them!

  1. One of my favorite parks to walk actually has work out sites along its path

  2. Someone please motivate me to do this, lol

  3. I love stuff like this but I have to admit I’ve forgotten to do it. Thanks for the reminder that fitness doesn’t have to require time out of my regular life. I just need to go back to a fitness mentality. My husband used to laugh at me doing those kind of leg raises while I washing dishes but I haven’t done that in a long time.

    • I have started my series, if it is something to do for my blog, I am less like to slack off, lol. This is helping to motivate me to exercise and I am hoping will help motivate others if the need it.

  4. Great idea, and your enjoying time with your kids at the same time instead of off at a gym. Nice! :)

I never thought of working out while at the playground with my little guy, great tips!

    • I hope I can teach my son that fitness is fun as well as getting in that quality time while he is still little and wants to spend time with me.

  7. Thanks for sharing all these fitness tips! I love that they don’t involve the time and expense of a gym!

  9. Hey this is a great idea, I would never have thought to do this while at the park. I do ‘fitness fridays’ – maybe I will mention this as a suggestion.
