Moving Monday – Squats With a Teeter Totter

My son and I go to the park several times a week.  I love the walk there and back, but when there I try to incorporate parts of my workout.  I am trying hard to reach my goal this year of getting fit.  Being a stay at home mom, and being on a budget, working out at the playground is the best way to go.  It gives me time with my son while we have fun, he also gets exercise, the best of both worlds.

Today I will share how to do squats so that you can play and work out.  Squats work so many different muscles, the thighs, hips, buttocks, quads and hamstrings.  If your playground has a teeter totter, use it.  My son loves this, all he knows is mom is playing with him.  All I know is that I can get in a few reps while I am having some quality time with my son.  I will hold the position when I am about in the sitting pose, my son things it is funny, though my thoughts are – wow, I am not in as good of shape as I though, this should be easy.  Hopefully as I keep doing this it will get easier!

If you are like me and have the New Year goal to get fit, good luck and keep moving!!

  1. Such a great idea! I know the playground closest to me does not have a teeter-totter, but there are a ton of playgrounds in my city so I’ll have to check around for one that does. Thanks!!

  2. I love the idea of using the teeter-totter for squats. It has to be more fun than the usual way. I think its great that you have combined working out while spending quality time with your son.

  3. great idea, I would have never thought of using a teeter totter to exercise on!

  4. I love how you incorporated having fun with working out. That’s my kinda workout!

  5. You are so awesome about getting out and getting moving everyday! I need to follow your example!

    • That is why I am blogging about it, it keeps me motivated and I am hoping it gives others ideas on how to get a little exercise in with their kids.

  6. Cute exercise idea! Something we can all do.

  7. Never thought of that! But great option!

  8. Hey! What a great idea, thanks for the great tip!

  9. This is an awesome idea. I wish our playgrounds still had these! I can’t seem to find one anywhere =[

    • They removed them from a lot of ours because of the injuries. I know my oldest pierced his tongue with his teeth on one when he was three, he still loves them at 16.

  10. I love that! I haven’t seen a teeter totter in the longest time, but what a great way to get in some exercise! So glad it is starting to warm up I need to find a good park to take the kids so that I can work out while they play!
