Preparing for the Super Bowl XLV 2013

I have to admit that I absolutely love the Super Bowl, but I have never actually watched any of them.  I could not even tell you the names of the teams that have a good chance of going.  I know that is sounds crazy, I see bits and pieces of the game and I do tune in for the commercials because so many people talk about them.  I love the party during the Super Bowl, family and friends all gathering around to kick back and spend time just having fun.  I love having people over and the fact that my house is open so I can do my favorite thing which is preparing all the foods and keeping people fed.  I still get to interact and spend time with everyone while doing what I enjoy.

Today I ran to start checking out items for my menu, while I had items I needed to pick up, I wanted to go get some ideas as to what to make this year.  There are so many great options out there depending on how much you want to have available, the time you want to spend making the food and of course your budget.  We headed to Walmart to grab a few things and I walked to find some ideas and deals.

I am going to do a combination of things for our party.  This is the first Super Bowl where there is going to be someone here other than my husband and my kids so it has to be good.  Of course there will be the traditional things like the Velveeta and RoTel dip with Tostitos.

We will also have the Lil Smokies.  Not sure if they will be wrapped or in a sauce, maybe both.

Of course meatballs are a must.  Do you think anyone will notice if they are made with turkey?

Those are the main things I can think of.  I know there are plenty of other options out there.  It was getting close to lunch and nap time so we had to head home.  I am going to have to go on a hunt for recipes.  I have always done something for the Super Bowl, this year I want to step it up a bit.  I am really enjoying getting to cook now that I am home and have the time for it.  If you have any suggestions, please let me know, I like the guests we have coming so I definitely want to make them come back one day, lol.

  1. Sounds like a party! ;-) We don’t really watch much football around here. DH isn’t really into it (amazing, huh?) If anything, it’s a good time to go to a normally busy restaurant and have little to no wait. I hope you guys have lots of fun at your party though!

  2. Sounds like a great party! There are a couple of things I would suggest if there will be kids. Use english muffins to make mini pizzas and if you want something sweet that’s easy to make here is a recipe for homemade donut bites. http://southernbelle35.blogspot.com/2013/01/homemade-donuts-recipe.html

    • Thank you, forgot about the mini pizzas. I will definitely check out the recipe for the donuts (maybe not just for the party!)

  3. looks like you will have a blast!

  4. We’ve never had a Super Bowl party, sounds like fun. Love lil’ snakes.

    • This is the first one that is not just us, we always enjoy the food. I am glad that friends are coming this year though so I want more ideas for what to do for it.

  5. I love football, but I just have trouble getting into the game when our team isn’t playing. ;) I feel like, “but we hated this team three weeks ago!” LOL! But you are so right – the party is always a wonderful time!! Thanks for sharing – these are some great ideas!

  6. I admit, I do not follow football at all, and I only watch the Super Bowl for all the commercials and the halftime show. Still, we always have lots of snacks but I *always* order out. I’m now inspired to make some tasty food myself!

    • Nice to know I am not the only one that watches for the commercials. I have never watched the half time show though, maybe I will try it this year.

  7. Looks like your going to have a great time..

  8. sounds like a great party

  9. Although I don’t often go to Super Bowl parties and don’t even like football, I have fun on Super Bowl day watching and tweeting about the ads. Twitter makes it a party.

  10. How about spinch-artichoke dip and chips? Maybe salsa and guacalmole too. Another thing I’ve done for parties is get some pillsbury crescent rolls and put a little chicken salad in them and bake as normal. So good! And pretty easy.

    • Thank you, we love spinach-artichoke dip and I completely forgot it. Have the salsa and guacamole. The chicken salad and crescent rolls sound great so I will add it to the list.

  11. My family is so excited for the Super Bowl! Even though personally I’m a Redskins fan, I am excited for our hometown the Baltimore Ravens to make it into the Bowl. I’ve been menu planning all week!

  12. Its not a party until little smokies are involved! haha

  13. Big time Packer fan here and we didn’t make it this year but I will still be cooking and watching. We are going to have meatballs for sure as well as some homemade bread, dips, chips and veggies. Haven’t decided what else yet. Still thinking about it.

    • Thank you for those great ideas for food. Sorry your team did not make it, it will still be something to enjoy even if it is just because of your guests!

  14. Looks like you are ready for a great time!!!

  15. I love velveeta and rotel! And meatballs mmmmmmm! I have to do something for the superbowl this year (other than watch it) because my husbands team is in it!

  16. Looks like you’re getting ready!!! It’s going to be a great game!

  17. I LOVE turkey meatballs – though I hate the superbowl :)

    • Sorry you hate the Super Bowl, I am not a football person either. I love to cook and eat so this is going to be my day to splurge being that I have been pretty healthy for my goals this year.

  18. I’m impressed because I haven’t even thought about what I will serve for Super bowl Sunday. I guess I need to get started thinking about it…

Thanks for the kick in the butt & motivation to plan LOL

    Pamela

    • I have two reasons I love the Super Bowl – time with loved ones and cooking. I am so excited I have been thinking about my menu for weeks. Now that we have guests I want to do more!

  19. I personally like the Turkey meatballs better than the original! Looks like you are going to have a great party! :)

  20. Sounds like a perfect gathering. I am the same way, I love to entertain, but spend most of my time in the kitchen, at least this year I might watch some of the game online on my ipad in between servings: http://www.real.com/resources/watch-super-bowl-online

    • I can luckily see the tv from the kitchen so I can still interact with everyone. I am still trying to plan my menu and having fun coming up with ideas.
