Things to do with Kids – The Library

IMG_4685Everywhere I have ever been has a local library.  I have to admit, I have not been in a while.  We have started our weekly trips there again due to story time.  Our closest branch is Braden River Library and every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., they have story time for the kids.  With as shy as my son is, we are working up to attending this but are not quite there yet.  Instead, we head in to the children’s section where they have little tables and we read books and play with puzzles.  It is a great way to teach them about indoor and outdoor voices.

Our libraries also have sections with computers that you can use, there is a system to sign up for them and you get assigned a time and computer.  They also have free WiFi available, that way you can bring your own laptop and get access to the internet while there.  This is a nice thing to have for people who need to cut back on expenses at home but still need access to e-mail and other things.

IMG_4691Of course we always check out books to take home, I love checking out new cookbooks as well as other books, it is nice to get to really read though some of them before you buy them.  What a lot of people do not think about though is that you can check out movies while there.  Today we checked out Daddy Daycare.  While they might not have the latest and greatest (sometimes they do get movies that are newer releases in), I still love checking out movies to watch.  No rental fees and I know a lot of people that have had to let their cable go and this is a great way to still have something to watch.  They also have CD’s available to check out.  We will do this as well and my son loves listening to the music in the car.

This is a trip we will be doing weekly for something that is fun and yet frugal.  Check out your local libraries for things to do, you might be surprised at what you will find there!

  1. I LOVED going to the library when I was growing up. I remember going and being able to bring home 10 books. It was sometimes difficult to choose only 10!

    • I was the same, we had to split the limit between me and my sisters when I was younger. Now they let kids (once they reach a certain age) have their own card.

  2. I used to love taking my daughter to the library when she was little. They had a kids’ room with computers, kids’ books and toys. It was great!

    • Our library down town has a nice children’s area, unfortunately it also comes with a lot of vagrants that go there to sleep so I avoid it, lol.

  3. We love our library! In fact when my kids were born, one of our first place to call was our local library. They wanted to know about the babies birth! We love our library!

    • That is great, I do not know our librarians that well. I know the IT guy pretty good though having worked with him for many years! They are great people though and it is a fun, frugal trip!

    • He does great considering how he used to be. I do not mind, it is a scary world and if he needs to take his time entering it, that is more time that I have him to myself!!

  5. we love our libraries…we have a small one real close we can walk, but in the winter we’ll drive to one a little farther out because the childrens section is so much better

  6. As my kids were growing up, the library was always such a fun place to go. It’s free and kids can find hours of fun. In the end, they get to leave with selected books to take home and read. It doesn’t get any better! Thanks for the memories.
